Installing LineageOS on Redmi 12 (Fire)

 It is quite funny how Xiaomi makes their Redmi series to be very horrendous when used. With the new HyperOS updates, it were becoming even worse with extreme performance downgrades increasing with each update. As a (was) proud owner of Redmi 12 and a Custom ROM scavenger, i searched for something better than MIUI, HYPEROS in terms of Ecosystem, Features, UI, and, Performance.

A developer on GitHub have ported a custom ROM for Redmi 12 recently, and so I've tested it out and it works great... For the most part yet.

So, are you willing to take the risk?

First of all (Prerequisites):

1. Download Android platform tool, the newer the better.
2. Extract the android platform tool to a directory with no spaces.
3. Unlock Bootloader. This may help, I guess?
4. Reset Data/ Format Data.
5. Downgrade to MIUI 14/HyperOS 1

Then download (boot.img) and flash boot into the custom lineage os recovery.

You can do it by navigating to the platform tools folder and opening a terminal/command prompt/PowerShell window and type:

fastboot flash boot /path/to/file/boot.img

And then reboot to the recovery

fastboot reboot recovery

There, you must sideload the downloaded lineage-22.1-20250221-UNOFFICIAL-fire.zip or newer package to the device in both slot, slot A and slot B.

To do the sideloading, you must do this:

1. On the recovery screen, select apply an update
2. Select apply from ADB Sideload
3. On the PC, go type adb sideload /path/to/file/lineage-22.1-20250221-UNOFFICIAL-fire.zip

4. Then, wait until it were done, when prompted if you want to reboot to recovery again to apply more packages, proceed with it.

5. After it rebooted to the recovery again, it should've switched slot already. Then repeat step 1. to 4. again, before then rebooting into the system.

(if you were to flash g##### apps, you would want to sideload it right after you sideloaded the lineage-22.1-20250221-UNOFFICIAL-fire.zip. )
